A new car seat for our road trip! {Britax Pioneer Review}

When we began planning our road trip to Florida, we started discussing buying a second car seat. We were using The First Years True Fit which is a great car seat that we love! Unfortunately, we only had one car seat that we were bouncing between two cars which isn't always convenient. The True Fit was a great car seat for my car, a Ford Explorer, but it was a tight fit in my husband's Toyota Camry. We have a tall toddler. With both my husband and my toddler being tall it was creating an uncomfortable situation. My husband needed his seat pushed all the way back and my toddler was being pushed forward thanks to his car seat and his long legs. We were worried he wouldn't be comfortable for an 8+ hour road trip and began exploring our options.

Pish Posh Baby has a great selection of car seats and very knowledgeable staff to help pick out the products that meet your needs. I spoke with a Mom Rep online and gave her all my info. I wanted a car seat that is safe for a tall two year old, something compact that would fit in a smaller car, and something that wouldn't push my son so far into the front seat area. She recommended the Britax Pioneer.

Britax Pioneer features that I love:

  • Booster seat with a harness
  • 70 lb weight capacity (lots of room to grow)
  • Easy to adjust harness height
  • Two cup holders
  • Easy to install LATCH
  • Recline feature (harness mode only)

We installed the Britax Pioneer into my husband's back seat and instantly fell in love! My toddler was safe, comfortable, and had plenty of room! We love how easy it is to install. It only took a minute! We also love how simple it is to adjust the harness height. This is so important when dealing with growth spurts! My son loves having a place to store his drinks, snacks, and toys. The recline feature was really nice for our road trip. Our trip took about 12 hours one way which meant that my son took a few naps in the car. We wanted him to be comfortable. The recline feature helped us keep his head from falling forward a bit, but I do wish we could have done more about that! He was comfortable the whole way and didn't once complain about being in his seat for so long. We took our trip with our in laws and it was really convenient to be able to move his car seat into their car as needed without it being an installation nightmare.

My only complaint about this car seat is that I find the knob you have to push to adjust the tightness of the harness is hard to get to. The opening is very small and the knob is far back. It's not impossible, but it's also not very convenient.

This car seat is a great deal because it's on sale at Pish Posh Baby for only $183.99 and has free shipping! The regular price is $229.99! If you think this car seat won't fit your needs, I suggest talking to the Mom Reps! They really know their baby gear!

Do you have a favorite car seat? What keeps your little one safe and comfortable on long road trips?
