Flats Challenge: Reflections on Day 2

I am taking part in the Second Annual Flats and Handwashing Challenge hosted by Dirty Diaper Laundry.  For 7 days I will be using only flat cloth diapers and handwashing them in an effort to prove that cloth diapering can be affordable and accessible to all.  You can learn more about the rules and why this challenge was started by visiting the announcement post.  This year there are over 450 participants from all over the world!

I've survived two days of flats! Hooray!

I pleasantly surprised to find Noah with no leaks this morning! Thirty layers of cotton seemed to fold up great for my heavy wetter! He was in the anteater fold with a pad fold for more layers. Thirteen hours and worked great! I actually love this because I never stray from my Flip organics for nighttime. So now I have a back up solution and as a bonus it is actually a cheaper!

I washed diapers twice today. Hand washing is going well. No complaints about the actual process. It really is manual labor, but it doesn't take too long. I just washed 7 flats, 3 covers, some wipes, a swim diaper and a wet bag. From start to finish it took less than 25 minutes.

Noah did leak out of his nap diaper today. I had two flats pad folded together. I think it was too bulky and created a gap at the top. It was more layers, 36, than my nighttime diaper, so that's my only conclusion.

I'm missing my "me" time. I find that while the laundry isn't troublesome, it does take more time than just throwing a load of diapers in the washing machine. I usually long for naps and bedtime so I can rest, play around on the internet, etc. but my alone time is having to be pushed back to wash diapers. It's just another chore in my day which I kind of dread.

I'm down a Snappi. I can't find it. No idea where to look.

Two days down, five to go!
