Folding diapers

There's a million different opinions on the subject of cloth diapers.  If you did a survey on the best brand, type, laundry detergent, etc. you would get some very unique opinions.  Today I'm going to talk about folding diapers.  Most of my stash is pockets.  This requires stuffing the diapers before putting them away.  I never put much thought into the different ways you could deal with clean pockets until recently.

A couple weeks ago my cloth diapering sister in law stopped by for a visit.  I was in the middle of stuffing diapers and she offered to help.  Here is a side by side comparison of how we differ in "folding" our diapers.

Me on the left. Her on the right.
I stuff the pocket, tuck in the tabs, and fold in half. Done.

She stuffs the pocket and snaps the diaper closed.

Me. Her.
Yes, her's is prettier, I admit.  But that's just another step in putting my diapers away and putting them on.

When we moved into our house a few months ago she helped us unpack.  She put my son's clothes away in the drawers and folded everything like it was a product in a store.  It was beautiful and I loved it.  But I can honestly say it didn't stay that way.  I am more practical and she likes things pretty.  We get along great!

How do you deal with clean diapers?  Do you even bother to stuff them or do you just grab an insert and a shell and stuff as you go?  I've been guilty of this on occasion.  Do you take the extra time to snap them closed?

  1. Haha, I had never thought about this before either! I tend to fold mine the same way as you do. However, I like to differentiate between the double stuffed and the single stuffed diapers so I fold the double stuffed diapers in half and leave the single stuffed diapers flat.
